DENTAL IMPLANTS

A Secure, Long-Lasting Tooth Replacement

Dental implant treatment restores your missing tooth with a natural-looking alternative to dental bridges and dentures.

A solid tooth replacement

Your dental implant is crafted from titanium and forms a new, strong tooth root. The implant anchors to your bone and supports a visible, dental crown on the surface.

Implants can be used to replace a single tooth, to create an implant bridge using two or more implants, and for implant supported dentures that are anchored by a series of dental implants.

Dental implants are a beneficial treatment for you if you have healthy teeth and gums. Your bone tissue must also be healthy enough to support an implant or bone grafting might be necessary to strengthen your tissue.

Important post-op after-care for your dental implant

  • Apply moderate pressure to control minor bleeding. Use gauze pads or a clean, moist tea bag wrapped in a gauze pad.
  • Limit activity for three to five days post-procedure to keep blood pressure stable and reduce the risk of bleeding.
  • (If applicable) Request and follow instructions for the use of your removable or partial denture while your implant heals.
  • Avoid tobacco use for 24 hours following your procedure. Reduce your tobacco use for several months to assure proper healing.
  • Avoid chewing until your numbness disappears. Return to normal dietary routine after the first 24 hours and avoid spicy foods until your gum tissue heals.
  • Increase your fluid intake during the 24 hours post-procedure and eat soft, nutritious foods.
  • Gently wipe your implant site to clean it for the first 14 days following placement. Use gauze or a cotton swab.
  • Do not floss the site for at least four weeks. Continue brushing and flossing your surrounding teeth normally.
  • Take all prescribed antibiotics as directed. Control any discomfort with over-the-counter pain medication as necessary.
  • Use an ice pack (externally) for 20 minute intervals to reduce any post-treatment swelling.
  • Use moist heat to help reduce any discomfort for the first 24 hours. Rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water (one teaspoon of salt per glass of warm water) to treat discomfort also.
